How EdgeFast prices a check

A check compares the price on your betslip with the listed sportsbooks and, when both sides of the market are available, with a fair market price. This page explains each step, where the prices come from, what each plan sees, and what a check cannot tell you.

The five steps

  1. 1

    Read the screenshot

We read the sportsbook, each selection, line, price and stake from the image. If something is misread, Edit ticket in My Bets fixes it, and each saved slip includes two free edits.

  2. 2

    Match each leg

We look for the same selection, line and event at the listed books. A leg matches only when we are confident it is the same bet. Otherwise it shows as Unmatched, and we say so instead of inventing a price.

  3. 3

    Pull listed prices

For every matched leg we pull the current price at each listed book. Best marks the book with the highest price for the same bet. Behind means a listed book beats the price on your ticket.

  4. 4

    Form a fair market price

When both sides of a market are listed, we convert each side to implied probability and remove the sportsbook margin so the two sides add to 100%. The fair price is the price of that fair probability. The vig guide shows the arithmetic.

  5. 5

    Show the gap

The verdict is the gap between your price and the best listed price, in dollars on your stake. When a fair price exists we also show how far your price sits above or below it. A better price is a better price whether or not the bet wins.

One-sided markets

Many props and same-game parlays are listed one-sided, with no price on the other outcome. There is no honest way to strip the margin from one price, so we use the implied price and label the method on the check. We never invent a fair price without a match. Same-game parlays need a fair price at the scale of the whole ticket; when the listed books do not quote one, we abstain and say so.

Where the prices come from

Listed sportsbook odds come from OddsBlaze, an odds data provider. A check pulls prices at the moment you run it, with a short cache of up to 45 seconds, so a check shows the market as of about a minute before you see the result.

Markets boards are rebuilt every few minutes, and the page checks for updates every 30 seconds while it is open. When a book feed falls behind, the Markets page says so and hides that book until it is current again. A check is a snapshot at check time: prices move, and the same bet may price differently a minute later.

Books and sports

Major US books including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, Hard Rock, Hard Rock Indiana, BetRivers, Fanatics, Bally Bet, Betparx, Thescore, Bwin, ProphetX, Sports Interaction, NoVig, Pinnacle, Bet365. Pricing focuses on NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAAF, NCAAB, WNBA, UFC, major soccer, CFL, tennis. Teasers, round-robins, cricket, golf, esports, and many futures are often read-only.

What free and paid plans see

Every plan gets the same pricing. Free includes 10 checks a month, the fair price and listed-book shopping when every leg matches, return % and per-slip price-vs-close when captured, and the first 3 matched legs per check. EdgePro (100 checks a month) and EdgeMax (300) add all matched legs per check, price-vs-close breakdowns by sport, bet type and book, and Edge Board posting. Opening a saved slip never uses a check.

Limitations

  • Prices move. A check is a snapshot at check time, and a price that was Best when you checked may not be a minute later.
  • Estimates, not promises. A fair market price is the market estimate with the fee removed. Good prices lose and bad prices win.
  • Correlated legs. Legs from the same game are not independent, so a parlay price is not the product of its legs. Same-game parlays need a ticket-scale fair price or we abstain.
  • Partial matches. Props and niche markets may match only partially, and some ticket types are read-only. We show what matched and label the rest.

Independence

EdgeFast takes no placement payments from sportsbooks. Listed book names appear for price comparison only. We do not run sportsbook sign-up, deposit or affiliate links today. If that ever changes, we will disclose it next to those links, on this page and in the Terms.

Questions

What is a fair market price?

Consensus odds for the same selection at check time, with sportsbook margin removed when both sides are available.

How do you remove the sportsbook margin?

When both sides exist, we strip the two-way margin and use the fair probability. When only one side is available, we use that implied price and label the method. We never invent a fair price without a match.

What are the known limitations?

Props and niche markets may only partially match. SGPs need a ticket-scale fair or we abstain. A check is a snapshot at check time.

How does this relate to beating the market?

EdgeFast tracks your saved book price vs that book's close over time. One strong check is not proof of skill.

Is EdgeFast betting advice?

No. EdgeFast is informational price discovery. You decide whether to bet. 21+ only. If gambling is causing harm, call 1-800-GAMBLER. 1-800-GAMBLER is a problem-gambling helpline, not EdgeFast support.
