How it works
Add the implied probabilities of both sides. The total above 100% is the overround, the book’s built-in fee. Hold is that fee as a share of all money bet: 1 minus 100% divided by the total. The fair price scales each side so the two add to exactly 100%.
Worked example
−110 and −110 imply 52.38% each, or 104.76% in total. The overround is 4.76 points and the hold is 4.55%. The fair price on each side is +100.
When to use it
Vig is the price of the price. Compare it across books before you place the bet: a market at −105/−105 charges about half of what −110/−110 does. A check shows the listed books’ prices on your leg; this tool shows what each market charges.
Questions
What is the difference between overround and hold?
Overround is the total implied probability above 100%: 4.76 points for −110/−110. Hold is the same fee as a share of money bet: 4.55%. Bettors and books use both words loosely.
Is lower vig always better?
Lower vig means a smaller fee, which is better if the fair price is the same. A low-vig book can still post a worse price on your side, so compare the side you want, not just the fee.
Why does a typical spread sit at −110?
Because the book charges about 4.5% on a balanced market. Some books post −105 or −108 on some markets. Props and futures usually carry far more.
Does the fair price here match a check?
